I would love a “Staging Management” workflow that treats staging + production as one logical site.
My current setup:
• I edit everything on staging, then push staging to production
• WP-Umbrella identifies sites by URL, so staging and production show up as separate sites, which creates what looks like duplicates in the dashboard
• When I push staging to production, it overwrites production files and DB, so the WP-Umbrella plugin on production can get removed and I have to reinstall it
What I’m requesting:
• Ability to link staging and production under one site record (same project, multiple environments)
• A push from staging to production should let Umbrella stay connected or be restored automatically
• Production monitoring by default, with staging monitoring as an optional toggle
• A fair billing model where I’m not forced to pay two licenses for what is essentially one website with a standard modern workflow
This would make staging-to-production feel seamless and prevent duplicates, confusion, and repeated reinstall steps.

Detect Environment for Staging or Development Sites

It would be great if WP Umbrella could auto detect the environment in wp-config to know if a site is in staging or development, or have a way for us to set it. Then use that to adjust some of the rules and alerts. For example, on those sites being set to no index or having Debug turned on wouldn't show as a risk.

We 100% need this even for just login functionality. We are gradually migrating from ManageWP/GoDaddy Pro, and we have our staging sites tagged and accessible there. However, each environment in MWP has a unique key that gets overwritten when we push between environments. We don't need backups, monitoring, or fancy features in staging, but access is a must. Although it would be cool to run updates on staging and test there instead of in production...

Aurelio Volle Where is this feature request standing in 2025?

Regarding GDPR this can be a bit tricky with all kind of plugins storing privacy data, but it should probably at least have support to skip/anonymiz privacy data from WP and Woo for the staging sites?!
Also it should probably have an option to stop all mails from sending (https://wordpress.org/plugins/disable-emails/), and also an option to disable the default queue runner (https://github.com/woocommerce/action-scheduler-disable-default-runner) - useful for sites with various automation (AutomateWoo etc.).
Oh, and maybe also deactivate all webhooks (for Woo) automatically...

Aurelio Volle what is the status of this feature (and improved backup/offsite options as well)? Just started the process to switch all our managed sites over to WP Umbrella but already having issues with how backups and working (not able to spinup in LocalWP site without considerable work, sql file split is a hurdle that is easy enough to solve, but sql will not import manually without errors even after that). Need better backup/staging connections to make this work.

Any updates on this? This is the only thing holding me back from moving over from Blogvault. Not only that staging sites are important to test updates, but also when restoring a backup from a month ago, ideally I would like to be ablet to restore it on a staging site first, to test it, to make sure it works fine, before pushing to the live site.
